Father you are Lord, and God you created the universe and you did that by speaking the word when you spoke it into existence with the words of your own mouth. Your words are almighty and powerful. And now you say there is power in the words that we speak for we are created in your image. Help us now to be careful and responsible with our mouth, to be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to be anger.
You tell us in your word that blessing and curses come from the same mouth that even a fountain does not spout fresh water and bitter water from the same spout. Yet, with our tongues we bless you, Lord, and with it we curse men who are made in your likeness. Forgive us please, Lord, for our untamed tongue that is so often full of poison, criticism and even being cynical at times. O God I’m asking you to please change our hearts, that we can learn to love more, change our minds that we may think better, Oh Lord, for out of the abundance of the heart, your word tell us that so a man/ woman thinketh so he/she is because the mouth speaks.
Help us now, Lord, for you have said that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Forgive us Father for all the things we’ve said and done for being critical, judgmental, sarcastic, rude or unkind even hurtful with our words. Help us to speak life and encouragement to those around me. Help us to walk in love always offering words of kindness, love, and grace, especially grace so that we do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Help us to be wise and use our tongue to speak healing words because a gentle tongue can sooth away wrath for it’s like a tree of life, and we don’t want to crush other people’s spirits.
Help us now Father to put a guard over our mouth and keep us from trouble. Teach us now Lord to know when to speak and when to be still or pray. And when we speak, help us to speak the truth in love. We don’t want our service to you to be worthless because we cannot bridle our tongue. Help us to become more mature and keep our lips from evil. Father we know that we can trust you Lord, to cause us to desire and to do your will and to cause our thoughts to become agreeable to your will. Thank you for your grace, thank you for your mercy because mercy can sooth our case, Lord, and we give you all the glory for the changes that you are about to bring in our life by your Holy Spirit, Lord I want you to know that we are a grateful people and it’s in your name we pray Amen.
